It’s time for CREATURES

Hello my creative bunnies!

This year I’m looking to experiment with a more creaturesque style. I absolutely ADORE all the beauty, the fashion, the vintage, the theatrical but I’ve decided I’m really going to step it up a notch.

I find it so inspiring watching movies, reading stories and old folk tales and I’m always so mesmerised and fascinated by the creatures I see. My passion is all about manipulating the human figure and I feel transforming someone into a whole new creature is the ultimate transformation.

A film that have seen really that has really caught my attention include the absolutely B-E-A-UTIFUL Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water. Absolutely everything about the movie is absolutely incredible - every shot of like a photograph of perfection. You can see a behind the scenes time lapse of the creature here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP5Cisf0aKw

Of course that is an insane job but I’m going to start small and work my way until find my own level of creative human-creature satisfaction.

Other films I find with inspiring character references are Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth and of course Jim Henson’s The Labyrinth is my old favourite. Anything magical and fantasy really captures my attention. Can you tell?

I simply love the idea of creating little pixies, magical creatures with fauna growing through their skin with magical viney head pieces. Organic mermaids with gills, webbed fingers and true ears or a siren. I really like the idea of dancing on the edge of being a humanoid. Below are some images I find a lot of inspiration in..

I’m going to to add a BRAND NEW section to my website called CREATURES. This will be an ongoing process but it will include all my photo and video exploits of this project including various SFX tests and results - think textures skin effects, organic hornsprosthetic ears and noses and more.

Concepts I’d really keen to focus on exploring within this project include pixies, mermaids, witches, vampires, goblins and demons. These are all very generic creatures however I embrace the challenge in creating them all in my own incredibly unique way. Using a mixture of prosthetics, special effects make-up, theatrical make-up, wigs and special products such a contact lenses and custom fangs I hope to create some truly captivating imagery.

I’m very excited to start this project. In the meantime if you have a creative project and think we could work together, please do get in touch!

I’ll keep you updated on my journey. <3
